Pregnant Pause by Miz Pink

I’m quite pregnant. I have reached that stage where I am simultaneously overjoyed to be hosting a growing life inside me while also wanting the damned human out of me as soon as possible.

I’ve been down this road twice before. I knew it was coming.

As a roughly 7 months pregger chick myself I’m a little wigged out by the story that McCain’s newly announced sidekick Sarah Palin may not be the actualy mommy of her fifth kid..a kid she announced when she was supposedly 7 months pregnant but not showing and not having told anyone before then she was pregnant. Hmmmmm.

This story has been making the rounds quite a bit. One place you can see it retold is here. I won’t get into all the gory details here.

I don’t like conspiracy theories because they get used often enough against the left-leaning politicicans that I enjoy supporting. I’m not interested in spreading rumors by saying I believe this story, because I just don’t know how credible it is.

But just for the sake of argument, let’s say that Sarah Palin removed her pregnant daughter from high school and kept her hidden from folks for a while, announced that she herself was pregnant even though she wasn’t showing and apparently no one knew she was with child, and then went on to pose as this child’s mother instead of her daughter stepping up to the rightful role of mother.

Let’s just say.

Because if it is true, and I’m not saying it is, it will be a huge insult to me and to any other pregnant woman who believes in our power to choose what will be done with our bodies.

Sarah Palin is the kind of person who would see Roe v. Wade overturned. More than that she is the kind of person who would love to see abortion not only cease to have federal protection but probably to be outlawed in all 50 states. From what I’ve read, she rejects abortion even in cases of rape and incest. This is a dangerous woman to other women. Period.

If this is the kind of stance she takes…that women have to always give birth no matter what…and if it turns out she covered up her daughter’s pregnancy and claimed it as her own…then why doesn’t her daughter have to stand up and claim her own pregnancy? Why doesn’t she have to face the possible shame or embrassment or even responsibility of shouldering her own child burden?

And moreover, why does her mother get to lie and look like a frickkin supermom who doesn’t show at 7 months, breaks water in the middle of a speech, gets on a flight, and goes to another state to give birth?

Again, I don’t know that all that’s true. But it sure sounds pretty fishy to me.

A woman who would do all this is a woman who is one of the worst kind of frauds. I hope it’s not true becuase it would be another example of glaring hypocrisy on the part of a right wing Christian nutjob…and that crap makes people like me look bad just because I’m Chrisitian too.

I can understand the selfless mother thing to some point but what about the personal responsibility thing the Repubs are so fond of touting? I think that’s one of the big things that gets me here…if the story is true. Considering she’s under investigation for some other stuff and apparently politics are pretty crooked in Alaska, it’s seeming more true by the minute for me. :(

I know it sounds crazy. It made me feel dirty a little even posting it. But the more I read the more I thought it might could be. I mean it’s just so…out there.
And I’m with you on being a Christian and wishing the far right types wd stop making all of us look mean-spirited!

My questions: If it’s actually her daughter’s child, why hide it? Teenage pregnancy, and teenage motherhood doesn’t necessarily carry the stigma that it once did. Perhaps in Alaska, it still does.r

Special programs are now set aside these days for situations just like this, where teenagers receive alternative schooling away from the main student body. Perhaps in Alaska, such programs are non-existent.

If it’s her daughter’s child, and she’s representing it as her own, in hopes of scoring political points with the evangelical right, then I’m sure she’s breaking some other commandment of the “Thou shalt not” type.

If it is her daughter’s child, and she’s shielding her and the father from living with the shame of an out-of-wedlock child, and it is found out, then she’s sending a message to the nation’s young women that if you keep your child, rather than abort it, you may be subjected to some unwanted public scrutiny or scorn. “You, see, I went so far as claiming this child as my own to protect my daughter.”

All of this is speculation. We don’t have all the facts. They may come to light, and they may not. Only her obstetrician, and gynecologist know the truth. And aren’t they bound by some oath or another?

Whether it’s her child or her daughter’s child matters not to me. What matters, if indeed she covered up the childbirth by claiming the child as her own, is what it says about her, who’s going to be a stone throw from the White House, if something untoward happens to McCain, if he’s elected president.

Such an action, if true, showed bad judgment, deception, and cover-up. Whether she did it to protect herself or her child–her standing in the community, her staunch opposition to abortion, or her political career, or her daughters virtue, the young man’s reputation (and we know nothing, so far, about the age of the father, or anything else about him), or the social standing of the father’s family–pales along side of the damage she has done, if what we suspect comes to light.

For those in the public arena, transparency has always served better than lies and deceit. We live in a mass-media world, where the mainstream press, as well as the National Enquirer, will leave no rock unturned to get at the truth.

Yeah, I’m with the majority here (well, the majority at this point…Lord only knows where it might go if we have more comments)…we just don’t know and it’s pure speculation.

But it is so unnerving a possibility, particularly when added to the fact that this woman, for all her intelligence, spunk and tenacity that she seems to have…well, she ain’t ready to be a heart attack (or stroke, or assassin’s bullet) away from the presidency. I’ve heard some folks trying to play up the “she’s got more EXECUTIVE experience than anyone else in the race, including McCain” but it’s poppycock. I’ll take people with years in the U.S. Senate and some serious-ass educational credentials to run my nation any day of the week over someone who has been, thus far, a city councilperson, a mayor of a small town, and a part-term governor of the most sparsely populated state in the country.

    Sheesh!

I’m starting to think McCain done had a mini-stroke during the campaigning. He ain’t right in the head with this choice, no matter how you slice it.

Oh, KellyBelle, don’t feel dirty. It was pretty clear that you weren’t trying to pass it off as gospel truth over at your place. And if the facts are correct as presented (and maybe they’ll get refuted officially. I don’t think they have yet), they do add up to a pretty wacky and disturbing cirumstantial case.

Besides you saved my hynie cuz I wasn’t sure what I was gonna post today, and Deke gave me Saturdays. 😉

Well none of know the real deal, but as someone who is a birth junkie, the reality of a woman flying while possibly in labor which I have read on a various sites she did, rings false. Most midwives/ob’s caution against flying late in pregnancy. So that detail alone strikes me as strange and definitely raises my eyebrows.

    “Birth junkie” ????

Even living with you for the past decade I don’t think I’ve ever heard you use that term.

For those who might be a bit confused, my wife is NOT addicted to popping out kids. God forbid, because me being at the tender age of 40, chasing around a 3 year old and fretting about how to get the 16 year old into college, I don’t know if I could survive a third child.

My wife IS, however, a junkie for birthing information, from the mainstream to the alternative.

If there’s something to be known about pregnancy and the birthing process and ways to raise and educate kids, chances are Mrs. Blue has more than passing familiarity with it. 😛

By the way, before any angry Republicans come around here and point out that a story has emerged about Palin’s daughter being CURRENTLY pregnant but about to marry the father…let’s keep a few things straight:

    – This doesn’t quash the “hmmmmmm…odd” factor of her fifth child because in the timeline, it could still easily be that that child was her daughter’s and her daughter got herself in a family way right after having her other child yanked away to be raised as her mother’s instead.

    – It still speaks to Palin’s judgment. She has a currently pregnant out-of-wedlock child (family values, anyone?), and thus a daughter who doesn’t seem like she needs the disruption of mom becoming V.P.; even if the Down syndrome child is Sarah Palin’s, all of her actions the day her water broke would have done nothing but put the child in her womb in incredible danger; and there is a high-needs baby here that isn’t anywhere near one yet and needs momma badly. If this is the way Palin co-runs her family, she’s not someone I want co-running the country.

    – Before any Republicans cry “foul” over Internet-fueled rumors about Palin’s so-called fifth child, let’s remember all the Internet rumors about Obama that once circulated and in many cases still do circulate, throwing around rumors still that have been PROVED wrong, and the Republicans not only continue to profit from those rumors but they do nothing to downplay them. You reap what you sow, folks.
