Out of Synch

Certainly, I’ve never been as avid as Mrs. Blue in terms of morning and evening prayer on a regular basis nor reading my Bible everyday.

Ironic, since I’m the deacon in the family. Not that I currently have any formal posting in which to do any deacon-ing.

But  a lot of my troubles right now in terms of dealing with things in life (interactions with my daughter, dealing with stress, making decisions) I think are tied into the fact that I haven’t even done my modest level of semi-regular time with God.

Sure, I think about Him and I write here on matters spiritual, but I’ve been praying less, reading the Word less, even posting less often on religious and spiritual matters.

In other words, my head is spending too much time here on Earth and not enough in the world of the spiritual.

And I think that is at the root of a lot of my problems, because when I do spend more time on my spiritual exercises, I am healthier for it. Just like when I do physical exercise…which I also need way more of.

So, time to hit the books. More specifically, the Good Book.

This is terribly presumptuous, and no doubt you have your own agenda and favorites. However, if you don’t mind a suggestion from a heathen:
    Ecclesiates Ch. 3
    Psalms Ch. 23
    Psalms Ch. 91
    Matthew Ch. 6
    1 Cor. 2:10-16
I hesitate to even mention these; I know you know. Just places I’ve taken rest. You may do with them as you will.

    You are blessed.

Been having the same concerns myself. I’ve been trying to get a little reading done every morning at least and go to bible class at church. I really have to improve my prayer life though.

when you want it least, THAT is when you need it most.

and btw, i spend a lot of time talking to god while on my bicycle. when i’m in pain, when i’ve already clocked 40 miles and i have so many more to go, we talk. that burn is god opening the connections in your body which will open the connections in the brain. if i know i’m going to challenge myself [before the MS150s, for example] i make a point of reading some favorite sections of the torah and the high holy day prayer book, in addition to the weekday or shabbat prayers.

you should see my fellow riders when they hear me singing [VERY offkey] aveinu malkeinu!

i’m sure the Bible and commentaries are on tape, perhaps you can listen while you run/bike/steparobic/weight-train? i’m sure god is okay with multitasking, how else did the holy one manage to create the world in all it’s glory?

“when you want it least, THAT is when you need it most.”

    Too true, Robyn…too true…

Sadly, I’m also not working out right now (though I should be) and I work from home, so I have no commute.

But there are other places I can…and should…carve out some time for the reading, and maybe some audio stuff on the PC while I work wouldn’t be a bad idea either.
