Obama, Christian Love & Teabag Insanity

First, as a fairly liberal/progressive Democrat, let me say one thing to everyone out there who’s losing his or her frickin’ sanity over President Barack Obama, healthcare reform, or anything else related to Democrats:

Shut up and deal with it.

I’m not saying you can’t disagree or debate, but enough with threatening to kill the sitting president, claiming that he’s instituting Socialism, and all that other bullshit.

Since I became a relatively politically aware human being, and as the son of a devout anti-abortion, Catholic, Union-card carrying electrician (who also votes Democrat like me), I have had to suffer through the depredations of Ronald Reagan, Bush #1 and Bush #2 (I was too young during the Ford and Carter years to really grasp enough politics to care).

That’s 20 damn years I’ve suffered Republicans. The best years for our nation economically happened under Clinton, who could have stood to be a little less moderate at times and a little more left leaning, but at least he mostly got things right in terms of being a human and treating the citizenry who weren’t rich with some kind of compassion.

That’s 20 years of Republican rule I’ve lived under, and 8 years of Democratic rule. It’s time for you right-wing, conservative, war-mongering, wealth-chasing, poor-bashing, bigoted asses who pine for the days of Ronnie and Dubya to sit down and take a long, deep breath.

You’ve had plenty of time, and mostly, all you’ve done is cut the legs out from under the poor and working class, cut loose the mentally ill on the public, raped the school system, sent American jobs overseas, and rewarded corporations for screwing over their employees.

You’ve had 20 years of my politically aware life. You owe me at least another 7 years, if not 11, to make up for it before you get your shot again.

I didn’t scream at Reagan or either Bush. I didn’t threaten them. I bided my time and suffered and sweated, and now it’s my damned time.

Get it?

The nation doesn’t belong to Republicans. It belongs to Americans. But too many Americans handed it over like it was the GOP’s playground alone.

Take a rest, calm down, and tend to your homes, and let the sitting administration do its job, just like I let three of the last four do theirs to my detriment.

Second thing I want to say:

When did we lose (or rather, YOU lose, and I’m still speaking to the rapid GOP supporters, especially those whom they most screw over…the working class Republicans, who must be the most masochistic group of people on Earth) the ability to have polite discourse? When did it become appropriate to call for militias to take D.C. back for the people? Or to put a bullet in Obama’s head? Had any Democrat, liberal or other left-leaning group or individual done that during the GOP administrations, you’d be calling for their blood and calling them un-American and unpatriotic.

Be patriotic, and respect your damn president. At least half the nation disagrees with you right now, probably more than that, and you need to sit your asses down until you can debate sensibly.

Especially you Bible thumpers (and I love me some Jesus too, mind you). Even if you think Obama is persecuting you, Jesus told us to love those who persecute us, and he never advocated armed rebellion against sitting governments. Nor did he call for killing anyone. Jesus would be ashamed of every damn Teabag Party/teabagger out there.

That is all.

    Hi Deacon,

My respect for you was already pretty high, but with your statement of conciliation herewith that respect has shot up extremely high (high five) buddy…

    Well, I appreciate the sentiment.

Of course, both of us actually try to think things through, which helps. Sadly, it seems that the Teabaggers, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and the rest are actively against thought, reasonable debate, logic, compromise and cooperation.

I guess those things are socialist or fascist or satanic or something.

The tenacity of Repubs to kill this Health Care Reform Bill reminds me of the villains in a couple of old movies–“The Stalking Moon,” and “Westworld.”–and the TV series, “The Fugitive,” where Dr. Kimble was pursued relentlessly by the Barry Morse character (a kind of villain), Lieutenant Philip Gerard. What’s common to each antagonist is that each never stopped coming. Similarly, the Repubs have never stopped coming. They have been relentless in their efforts to water down this bill–in addition to using every trick in the book to delay, postpone, and scuttle it. And when that failed, they used fear–that too often successful Repub tactic–to defeat this bill.

Now that that has failed, twelve Republican State Attorney Generals, and I understand one Democrat (thirteen in all, hopefully unlucky for them), are scrambling to challenge the constitutionality of this law. Some made their threat days before it was signed into law. If the challenge ends up in the Supreme Court (Of course, the lower courts may rule against it, and the Justices may not take the case.), it may not only test the constitutionality of Health Care Reform, but possibly Social Security, and certainly Medicare and Medicaid.

For this reason alone, the Justices may not take on this case. But it’s not a certainty. Already this conservative court has given free speech rights to corporations, and have ruled to expand government’s appropriation rights under eminent domain.

I don’t think we can trust this Supreme Court not to meddle in this. Many believe that this court shaped the outcome in a presidential race–the election of George W. Bush. I fear that this time, too, they may not like being on the losing side.

Seems like for that reason and so many others, this would be a really, really nice time for two or three of the more conservative justices to retire and be replaced. 😉

I hope Rush Limberger moves to Puerto Rico or where ever he said he was going soon…bored with listening to his tired old shit.

I think it was Costa Rica…but either way, of course, he picked places with permutations of the Spanish word for “rich” didn’t he? 😉 Anyway, we all know he won’t keep his promise, but there’s always hope.

As an aside, just to remind us all how long he’s been around, I turn 42 today, and used to listen to him on the radio when I was 19 (don’t judge me…my truck only had an AM radio and very few stations came in clearly, and my summer job was to be a process server, so I basically lived in my truck during the work day). He scared me even back then, and he’s scarier now. And he used that “femi-nazi” phrase even back then

    Kit,

If that had happened, they probably would have found someplace WORSE than Guantanamo Bay for such folks, as they would have been branded terrorists and traitors and unpatriotic.

Just ran across your page. You go, Man! I am 65 years old and agree with all that you said. Too bad more people don’t have their heads on straight like you.

Keep thinking–that’s what we need, more thinkers and fewer Rush babies and others who have been brainwashed into not thinking by the idiot talk show rabble.

Thanks to both of you. Always nice to have some new visitors (or existing readers who are new commenters…hard to tell which you are Corey).

    @ justacitizen

I will keep thinking, both about politics and spirituality. I’ve never been comfortable being in lockstep with doctrine on either subject…sadly, in both arenas, many people allow themselves to be baby-fed (or force-fed) from radio and TV folks who are on some insane agendas

    @ Corey

I totally understand having roots in a place where you don’t necessarily “fit in” with some of the locals…though I’m sure you’ve found in your part of the nation (as I’ve found in my part, which feels like home now after 8 or 9 years living here) that no matter how many people may seem to be in a totally different philosophical or ideological space than you, there are often more commonalities than differences overall. I hope that more people can find the common ground and be in a less divisive mode.
