Atrocities of war

Well, I defintely wanted to bring more current events/news stuff into this blog, but I didn’t think I’d be having to handle such a foul subject matter on just my third post in the “Worldly Matters” category.

Rape.

Nasty business all the way around, but apparently the U.S. military has a bit of a problem with rape and sexual harrassment in general and a glaring lack of “gung ho” attitude to really address it. My fellow blogger Big Man over at Raving Black Lunatic did a great job of expressing outrage about this issue, and I’m not even going to try to match or top him on that. Go read about it for yourself over there and do what you can to spread the word, even if it’s just to share with some friends. You never know who knows someone who knows someone who can do something. As Big Man notes, the media could stand to get its priorities straight and do more to cover shit like this than worry about most of the stuff it tends to cover. I’m a journalist myself by trade, though not really well equipped outside of this blog to spread the word, since I don’t work for mainstream news media but rather technical trade publications.

Yeah, I know this post doesn’t have any particular spiritual slant. Unless you count the fact that it hurts my soul to think that anyone could violate another person in this way.
