No, I don’t mean barfing (though, come to think of it, Little Girl Blue did actually have a little tummy problem and threw up a couple times). I’m not sick of the holiday already.
Nope. Just had to do all the wrapping last-minute and heave all those gifts downstairs, as quietly as possible while my wee one slept and Mrs. Blue slumbered, too (don’t be mad at her; she needed the rest more than I needed the help). I also had to assemble one large item on the spot, since I don’t think the little girl would be patient if I had to put it together on Christmas morning. I just wish that the second step of assembly wouldn’t have said “align screws with predrilled holes” only for me to discover that those four predrilled holes didn’t exist. Thank God the wood was soft, since it would have been hard to drill quietly. In the end, even though it took more than two hours all told, it all worked out, and I can’t wait for the morning flurry of unwrapping.

i have a question for you – perfect that you posted what you did. so a bit of a preface, i’m having a bit of an issue with christmas myself. i mean, i have a 4 year old son and he asked me point blank yesterday – is santa real? i didn’t know what to tell him….i told him Jesus is real.
i want to know what do you tell your babies about christmas? i don’t want to lie to my son about it at all and if i encourage him to believe in an idea – i would like for it to be christianity.
i mean i guess i just wonder how some christian people rationalize celebrating christmas – with the gifts and tree and all the hoopla?
I hate putting stuff together.
But, I feel like more of a man when I finish.

We don’t mind the Santa mythology, but I’m the kind of guy who likes to maintain strong imaginativity and my wife, though she’s lacking in that regard, wants to encourage imagination in our daughter. So, things like fairies, Santa, etc. are OK around here. We did remind her multiple times about what Christmas was really about, and I think on some level she gets it at the age of 3, even though it’s still mostly about the gifts.
Then again, she gets cuddle up with my wife before bedtime each night to watch a movie (or part of one) and also to pray and do a Bible verse reading (usually from Psalms), so we keep the real spiritual thing going on a constant drip whereas the other stuff just pops in randomly.
